JOHANNESBURG (MarketWatch) -- Vodacom Group Ltd. (VOD.JO), South Africa's largest cellphone network operator by subscribers, Monday said its first-half profit fell 98% after taking impairment charges on an acquisition.

The Vodafone Egypt segment is involved in mobile network operator in Egypt. The Safaricom segment relates to mobile telecommunications networks. It also operates through the United States of America, South Africa, United Kingdom, Europe, Asia, and Rest of World geographical segments. The company was founded in 1993 and is headquartered in Midrand, South Africa.
